Brief about United States Penitentiary (USP) - Florence ADMAX
United States Penitentiary (USP) - Florence ADMAX is a Super Maximum Federal BOP in Colorado; it has 422 beds in the facility. If you get sentenced for super violent crimes like multiple murders, terrorism, etc, in the USA, you can end up here.
It is classed as a Supermax, or 'control unit prison,' where the safety of inmates and staff is paramount. Located in Fremont County, Colorado, and opened in 1994, it is known as the Alcatraz of the Rockies. This facility is one of the biggest in terms of area, with 49 acres.
Inmates here are confined to single cells for the majority of the day, with facilities constructed of poured, reinforced concrete to prevent self-harm. They are under 24-hour intensive supervision, ensuring high staff-inmate ratios.
Facility Type and Security Level
United States Penitentiary (USP) - Florence ADMAX is an Adult facility. It has the highest level of security possible. By law, an inmate gets at least four hours of visiting time per month, but the prison can usually provide more. However, the Warden can restrict the length of visits or the number of people who can visit at once to avoid overcrowding in the visiting room.
The complex also includes a minimum-security camp that holds more prisoners than the supermax unit.
Services
The facility offers a literacy program designed to help inmates develop foundational knowledge and skills in reading, math, and written expression and to prepare inmates for GED classes. Inmates with low English proficiency are required to take ESL classes. Adult continuing education, college correspondence programs, and parenting classes are available. A Release Preparation Program also runs towards preparing inmates for their return to society. Inmate tutors teach skills like job searching, resume writing, budgeting, and home buying.
